India:Ruchi exhibits delicate embellishments in textured fabrics

Ruchi Mehta proved with her SALT label that her collection for Autumn/Winter 2008 at Lakme Fashion Week can move effortlessly from the western to the ethnic wear segments.
Working with muted shades to match the coming season she used ivory, silver, dove and coal as the back ground for her ensembles and then added on hints of olive, twilight, misty blue, champagne, red, ochre and sea.
Embellishments were so delicate that they almost resembled the beautiful kantha stitches which she livened with crewel work and along with some coarse rustic weaves added on controlled combinations of sheer and textured fabrics. The shapes were fluid and the detailing like cuffs and collars were large and eye-catching.
The six saris that interspersed the western wear had interesting cholis - some with braided necks and cowl backs with heavily embroidered pallavs.
The skirts, shirts, dresses - often tiered and worn with textured scarves and stoles were in feminine silhouettes like the petal skirt with a frock shaped jacket, the blob jacket teamed with a short dress in rose, the balloon dress with a satin wool cocoon shawl and the cowl dress with a texture coat.
Ruchi Mehta's Salt label has that restrained creativity which makes her garments easy on the eye with that relaxed comfort which is ideal for the end of the year look.
Here was a haute stylish collection for those days when the sun hides behind the clouds and the mercury dips into the cold zone.
