To boost the local textile industry, an exhibition of textile products was held on March 27, in Amritsar. The event was a result of initiative taken by the Ministry of Textiles and the Shawl Club (India) Amritsar.
The local manufacturers displayed a wide range of items including blankets, textile fabric, shawls and yarns, to offer the domestic and global buyers. This meet is the first of its kind, where buyers and sellers came face to face.
The fair proved to be a perfect ground to find solutions to problems like increasing competition, high cotton prices, rupee appreciation and loss faced by exporters as well as absence of adequate downstream integration projects in weaving and processing.
Top textiles manufacturers including GTZ from Germany, Oswal Woollen Mills Ltd, Amritsar Swadeshi Textile Corp Pvt Ltd, OCM India Ltd, Apollo Shawls, are some of the companies who actively participated here.
The local manufacturers requested the Union Ministry to hold such events at regular basis so that domestic entrepreneurs can get maximum benefit by signing new business accords. They also urged the authorities for regular update to be provided regarding developmental schemes like Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (STTP), Group Workshed Scheme (GWS), Group Insurance Scheme (GIS) for power loom workers at low a premiums. Along with revival of Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS),that provides subsidy on loans to set up modern textile machinery and their smooth implementation.
Exhibition was addressed by Chief Guest V K Kohli, Regional Director, Ministry of Textiles. Along with Dr S K Chaudhuri, Guest of Honor, Area Director, of The Woolmark Company. Mr Parneet Bhardwaj, Additional Deputy Commissioner presided over the inaugural ceremony.
