India:Bannari to fly high with new apparel unit

Bannari Amman Group, largest industrial firm of South India, has joined hands with US-based Brandot International Ltd, for setting up a new manufacturing unit, Bannari Amman Apparel (BAA), to produce intimate apparel for men and women.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, V S Ganesh, CEO, BAA informed, “The new unit will come up on 30 acre land with an investment of nearly Rs80 crore in Ozahiyur, near Chennai, with 50-50 partnership.”
Mr Ganesh further divulged, “The plant will manufacture intimate wear for famous brands and retailers of US and EU. The raw material required for the production purpose will be sourced from with in the country.”
At present the company manufactures around 15,000 pieces daily, with the new plant, the number is expected to go as high as three million garments a month. Within next three years the total sales are expected to reach nearly US $100 million.
While talking about Toyota System which is being adopted by Bannari, the CEO stated,”It would offer standup modular manufacturing system providing with a single piece flow. It maintains the flexibility and consistency in quality. The plant will be a fully air conditioned with facilities like waste water recycling system.
At present the international customers to which Bannari caters include Hanes, Victoria's Secret and Benetton. Among the domestic consumers Etma is a prominent customer.
Brandot, is an investment company that ventures in to partnerships with the apparel and textile private companies worldwide. With this new venture a lot of employment will also be generated that will automatically improve the state of Ozahiyur village.
