China: Container technology
TOMCO has recently obtained the GLOBALGAP certification for snow peas and sugar snap peas. The company can supply the peas year round and has got 120 hectares, which is good for 16,000,000 kg production throughout the year.
The fields are in an environment with an annual average temperature of 15-25 Celsius, which is very good for peas to grow. "However due to the heavy rains we still have less sunshine and the peas aren't growing as large as we want", says Younger Liu, Managing Director of TOMCO. "This situation will not change across September, but will get better in October when summer passes."
TOMCO is also building a new pack house near the fields. "We will be able to pick the peas and put them into a warehouse within 10-15 minutes."
China: Container technology
Due to a new container technology named AFAM, which TOMCO uses, the peas stay fresh for at least 12 weeks. "This means that we can ship our peas worldwide and customers still get a good quality and a longer shelf-life." One of the customers in Australia said: "The peas are still very good and we received them 4 weeks ago."
TOMCO is also testing this same technology on asparagus. "We are now doing the 3rd test on sea freight asparagus. The last 2 tests were gave good feedback. If we can get another 2 tests successfully carried out, we will be able to ship asparagus worldwide as well. As soon as we achieve it, we will inform interested parties."
