Authorities have removed a total of 11 hectares from kiwifruit orchards across New Zealand since the Psa infection was detected on November 6. According to the latest information from the newly formed Kiwifruit Vine Health Incorporated, 126 orchards across New Zealand have tested positive for the disease. About 71 per cent of the infected orchards are within a 23 kilometre area south of Te Puke.
Infected orchards are in Franklin, Hawke's Bay, Katikati, Poverty Bay, Tauranga, Whakatane and Edgecumbe, Waikato, Golden Bay, Horowhenua and Motueka. Most of the identified Psa symptoms are primary symptoms leaf spotting. Of the Psa affected orchards, Zespri Green variety orchards account for 57 of the 126. Case managers are working closely with affected growers with orchards that demonstrate secondary symptoms.
