NL: Patience required in quiet carrot market

Presently there is not much demand for Dutch carrots. According to Jos de Boer of the trading and processing company of the same name from Westwoud, NL this is normal at this time of the year. "There are sufficient carrots abroad and they find the price of carrots too high. This will probably remain so till the beginning of March."
"Only Russia wants carrots. Unfortunately Ukraine increased the import duties from 35% to 70% last week. All customs officers have been replaced. That is not good for the export. What is also happening now is that the vessel has been fully loaded with potatoes" Jos continues. "Poland and Southern Europe had a good harvest and have sufficient carrots. We just have to be patient for a while."The price of carrots is about 28 cents, but hardly any sales take place at that price. According to Jos hardly any carrots are being sold. "The bad quality carrots are already out of the market. The wheat has been separated from the chaff. Most of the bad carrots have already been removed from the market - destroyed or sold - or the farmers were really fast asleep."
