A Nanluoguxiang business owner's two-week protest out-side her store over demolition compensation for construction of the Subway Line 8 came to an end as her store was demol-ished on Sunday.

The clothing store at the south end of Nanluoguxiang was found closed after four months of operation on Sat-urday and demolished the day after.

Wang's previously posted "last will and testament" and banners reading "our life and death with the store together" were also removed from con-struction barricades enclosing the site.

Store owner Wang Shibo from Liaoning Province, to-gether with 13 family mem-bers who have been begging in front of the store for about two weeks, has left after telling the Global Times five National Peo-ple's Congress (NPC) deputies visited her store on March 3.

She explained the deputies told her they would consider signing a petition pleading her case and submit it to the NPC on March 5.

Wang claimed in an earlier report the demolition office of the subway construction com-pany and her landlord made a secret deal that deprived her of her share of the compensation, which she estimates to be 1.6 million yuan ($243,000).

The landlord has cut off all contact with Wang since receiv-ing the compensation, and the construction company refused to talk to the Global Times.

"Wang and the relevant departments, including the district Commission of Hous-ing and Urban-Rural Develop-ment, entered negotiations on the evening of March 4," Xuan Yongjun, spokesman of the Jia-odaokou sub-district adminis-tration in Dongcheng district, told the Global Times.

"She agreed to leave with the compensation offered by the government," he added.

However, Xuan admitted he wasn't sure when she left and how much compensation she received.

Wang couldn't be reached for comment Tuesday to con-firm Xuan's claim.

Li Weihua, media depart-ment director of the Dongcheng district government who had promised to comment on Wang's case to the Global Times, could not be reached by phone Tuesday.
