Shichahai, the Kung fu opera, was put on stage last October, giving an account of the story of a foreign girl, who was so interested in Chinese Kung fu after watching the movie Kung Fu Panda that she came to China to learn the Chinese Martial art. In China, she met a Chinese young man who also was a kung fu-lover. On the road they pursued their studies, the two came across the characters in Kung Fu Panda.
The kung fu opera is a combination of traditional Chinese kung fu and modern stage art. It gives an introduction of today s China and Chinese martial art. The cast is very strong, including champions in martial art competitions, domestic and abroad. Teacher and fellow apprentices of Jet Li, the Chinese kung fu king, are the supervisor and editor of the play.
The kung fu opera will be on staged again in Shichahai within the year.
