To better handle seating shortages in university libraries, one Beijing school has adopted a lottery system to help alleviate long lines for a study spot, local media reported Wednesday.
Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications worked out a measure to better manage limited study space by awarding students with a designated spot through lottery selection for the school year, China National Radio (CNR) reported
A teacher on condition of anonymity told CNR that library lines have created problems for university administrators and the lottery provides a quick solution.
While some students describe the policy as creative, others feel it unfair, as it limits the number of students permitted to use the library to a select few for a whole year.
"The lottery method works for university management, but what about the unlucky students who really need to study?" CNR commented.
"This seems like a lazy way to address the problem."
