The Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office established consular protection hotlines to help Beijing residents keep in contact with relatives living in Japan after the nation suffered a 9.0-magnitude earthquake last Friday, the Legal Mirror reported Tuesday.
The office reminded Beijing residents to avoid travel to Japan if possible, especially to such hard-hit areas as Fuku-shima and Sendai.
As phone and other com-munication services have still not completely recovered in the most devastated regions, Bei-jing residents are encouraged to call the office's consular pro-tection hotlines for assistance in contacting relatives through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
To contact the office, please dial 86 10 6519 2780 (week-days) and 6519 2708 (week-ends and holidays).
