A foreigner was detained for stealing two tables from a Starbucks in Chaoyang district after telling police the crime was a result of "too much pressure at work," an officer with the Exit and Entry Administration of the Municipal Public Security Bureau told the Global Times Sunday.

The 40-year-old man, whose name and nationality were not released by police, worked for a company near the Air China building where the Starbucks is located.

A Starbucks employee reported the two tables missing to police on March 13.

The tables were set in a public area inside the building where no employees guarded them.

However, one employee told police he had spotted a foreigner attempting to move the table. Police located the man with the help of the description provided by the employee.

The man later admitted to the crime, explaining to police that he was under a lot of pressure at work and believed stealing the tables would reduce his stress.

He also admitted he was familiar with the Air China building, and stole the two tables on separate occasions during the night.

The man explained he hid the tables in the building's basement before moving them to his office the following day.
