Ethiopian Airlines announced on Tuesday that it would introduce daily non-stop service from the capital Addis Ababa to Beijing as of May 2011.
The non-stop direct flight has been made possible by the introduction of the brand new Boeing 777 to the airline's fleet, Ethiopian Airlines said.
The new non-stop flights will shave almost three hours off the current flight time and link Beijing with dozens of countries in Africa via Ethiopia's hub at Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Airlines senior vice president and chief commercial officer Gobena Mikael said the Airline would be able to offer more links between Africa and China than any other carrier with daily non-stop services to Beijing, 10 weekly flights to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, as well as with four and five weekly routes to Hong Kong and Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province respectively.
With a total of 26 weekly flights to China, once again Ethiopian Airlines reaffirms its undisputed leading position in connecting Africa and China, he said.
Ethiopian Airlines has code share agreements with Air China, a Star Alliance member, offering passengers a wider choice of services between Asia and Africa.
Under the agreement, the two carriers jointly provide service to and from Addis Ababa to Guangzhou and Beijing.
