This year's largest drug trafficking case in the city was heard at the Changping district court Tuesday.

Six people are charged with falsely claiming to be representatives of pharmaceutical companies and selling pseudoephedrine HCl, a stimulant that is also used in the production of methamphetamines, extracted from over 2,000 boxes of OTC cold medicine capsules.

The six suspects sold the powder for a total 3.45 million yuan ($525,780), which marks the biggest drug bust in the capital this year.

According to the evidence provided by the Changping district prosecutors, Xie Qunying, son Xie Fei and nephew Liang Xing had sold over 700 boxes of the capsules for 1.27 million yuan purchased from Zhang Haiming, a self-proclaimed pharmaceutical sales representative, since January 2006.

Another suspect Tian Chunying purchased 787 boxes of the capsules under a similar identity and sold 300 boxes to Zhang for 1.55 million yuan on February 10, 2009.

The fifth suspect, Wang Yuqian, bought 850 boxes, 327 of which were sold to Zhang for 630,000 yuan.

Zhang, Tian and Wang are charged with illegal business operation, while Xie, his son and Liang are being prosecuted for the sale and distribution of illegal substances.
