Press Conference of the 14th World Productivity Congress held in Beijing

The 14th World Productivity Congress (WPC) will be held at the People s Hall of Liaoning Province in Shenyang on October 8-10, 2006. By the approval of the State Council of China, the 14th World Productivity Congress is sponsored by the World Confederation of Productivity Science (WCPS) with the Chinese Association of Productivity Science (CAPS) and Shengyang Municipal Government as the partners. Its official supporting organizations are as follows: National Development and Reform Commission of the People s Republic of China, National Bureau of Statistics of the People s Republic of China, the State Council Information Office of the People s Republic of China, the DevelopmentResearchCenter of the State Council of the People s Republic of China and Liaoning Provincial People s Government.

The WPC is the biennial event of the WCPS and so far it has been held 12 times. The congress will bring together a distinguished group of business leaders, industrialists, scholars, politicians, administrators and productivity experts from around the globe, and from all sectors of industry, commerce and public service, to focus on the development of productivity. The aim of the congress is to promote prosperity and the world peace by enhancing the productivity, which in turn will further promote the development of the world s productivity.

The 12th World Productivity Congress, which was organized by the CAPS and Hong Kong Productivity Council, was held successfully in both Hong Kong period and Beijing period in 2001. At that time, Wen Jiabao, the Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the open ceremony of Beijing Period Congress as the honorary president of the congress and gave a keynote speech titled Promoting the New Development of the World Productivity Together, which won a great applause. Scott Sink, the president of the WCPS, thought highly of the 12th WPC and praised it as the best one they have ever held.

Thanks to the successful holding of the 12th World Productivity Congress and the high-speed development of the Chinese productivity in resent years, the leaders of the WCPS gives the honor of hosting the 14th World Productivity Congress to China again. Together the Chinese Association of Productivity Science and Shenyang Municipal People s Government will hold the 14th World Productivity Congress successfully.

The theme of the 14th WPC is Pursuing Scientific and Sustainable Growth in Productivity and Performance. In order to highlight the theme of the Congress, there re four sub-forums as follows: Globalization and Development of Productivity, Sustainable Development and Innovation of Science and Technology, Development of Innovative Enterprises, Open and Reform of China and Regional Economy. The Congress will provide the experts, famous entrepreneurs, governors and CEO of the first 500 enterprises in the world a platform for the communication and deeper discussion of the hot spots brought forward from the four forums.

On the occasion, the Congress will give publicity to the development plan of transforming and revitalizing the old northeast industrial base, aiming at further promoting the development of Shenyang and the northeast industrial base. During the Congress, there will be some special arrangements like trade talks and 2006Annual Release of Chinese Brand in the Global Market.

Zeng Peiyan, the Vice Premier of the State Council takes the position of the honorary president of the 14th World Productivity Congress. While the presidents of the Congress are the Vice Chairman of National People s Congress Jiang Zhenghua and the president of WCPS Jean-Claude Lauzon. Zeng Peiyan, the Vice Premier of the State Council, on behalf of the Chinese Government, signs and issues the invitation to the Congress in December 2005. In order to make the preparation for the Congress go more fluently, the Congress Directing Committee and the Chinese Organizing Committee come into being. The Chinese Organizing Committee, which consists of the Secretariat (assumed by CAPS) and the Preparing Office of Shenyang Municipal Government, sees to the task of organizing and harmonizing the diversified work of the Congress and also communicating with the foreign partners.

The 14th WPC is an open international meeting and will bring together the people related with the development of productivity. Both the sponsor and the organizers believe that the 14th WPC will be a great event of the communication and cooperation of the economy, culture and science and technology. It will surely reach the international level and be more distinguishing and influential than the congress ever held.
