Consul of the British Consulate-General Visits GDUFS

December 10th- President Zhong Weihe met Ms. Jin Lian and Peter Upton at the North Campus on December 7th. Mr. Upton is a consul of the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General and also the Director of British Council in South China. Present at the meeting were Liang Jie, Deputy Director of the International Office; Chen Linhan, Dean of the International College; Hu Zhengmao, Associate Dean of the Faculty of English Language and Culture; and Xu Zhanghong, Associate Dean of the School of English for International Business.

President Zhong gives a gift to Mr. Upton

President Zhong Weihe began the meeting by giving a warm welcome to Mr. Upton. During their meeting, Mr. Zhong said that GDUFS is a university with International characteristics and it began cultivating its partnership with the British Council at the end of 1970s. In recent years, GDUFS has obtained great achievements through exchange and cooperation with many universities in the UK. He also explained to Mr. Upton that GDUFS is dedicated to Education Internationalization. For instance, the University initiated the "Education Internationalization 310 Project" where 10% of the students and teachers can go abroad to study, and 10% of the students come from overseas.

During the meeting they also exchanged ideas about GDUFS's cooperation with overseas universities. Mr. Upton was glad to know that GDUFS has had partnerships with so many universities abroad, and he also invited President Zhong Weihe to attend the International Education Conference "Going Global" scheduled to be held in Hong Kong in March, 2011. President Zhong promised he will be there! After the meeting, some school officials showed Mr. Upton around the campus. All in all a successful day.
