On May 27, the 6th Themed Event of Mr. President Invites You to Attend the Lecture was held at the conference hall of Building of International Culture. Mr. Wang Meng, a famous contemporary Chinese writer, was invited to give a lecture on Charms of Lao Tzu for teachers and students. The lecture was presided over by Li Xiaohu, assistant to the president and a graduate student of College of History.
Mr. Wang Meng is a contemporary Chinese writer and scholar. He has been a revolutionary when he was very young. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1948. He has successively worked as the Chief Editor of People s Literature, Vice-chairman of Chinese Writers Association, Member of Central Committee of CPC, Minister of Ministry of Culture, Vice-president of Chinese PEN Center, Member of Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee, Director of Literary History and Learning Committee of CPPCC, etc.
With humorous and philosophical languages, combining with his own abundant life experiences, Mr. Wang Meng talked about the concepts of ultimate concern and name rectification in traditional Chinese culture from a perspective of Lao Tzu s philosophy, as well as the flexibility and wisdom of Chinese culture from the contrary thinking and creative thinking of Lao Tzu. Finally, combining with his own experiences of literary creation, Mr. Wang Meng talked about the literariness of Lao Tzu from some Lao Tzu s famous sayings.
The lecture lasted for nearly two hours. Mr. Wang Meng s profound knowledge, humorous languages, and his familiarity with Chinese classic literatures have deeply impressed his audiences. Teachers and students applauded warmly to Mr. Wang Meng s excellent speech. Many students said, this lecture gave them much enlightenment on their learning of Lao Tzu s philosophy and classic Chinese literatures, even taught them a lot of social skills. Students hope this theme event could be more and more successful in the future.
