The awarding ceremony of the 2nd Global Young Chinese Architects Award and Academic Forum, sponsored by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, was held in Beijing recently. Nine architects won the award. Professor SUN Yimin, from the School of Architecture of SCUT, won the honor by his work Beijing Olympic wrestling venue.
The Global Young Chinese Architects Award is set to recommend to the world architects and works that can represent the strength and level of young Chinese architects, and to promote their rapid growth. Launched in 2007, the activity has received a strong response from architects at home and abroad. This session received 106 works of 46 young Chinese architects from countries and regions like China, America, Hong Kong, etc. Finally, 9 architects won out. Professor Sun's entry, Beijing Olympic wrestling venue, has won a lot of awards including the Architectural Creation Award.
Graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology, Pro. Sun is said to be the first doctor of Sports Architecture in China. At present, he is the executive deputy dean of the School of Architecture of SCUT, executive deputy director of State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Architectural Science, deputy dean of Architecture Design & Research Group, and councilor of Architectural Society of China. Pro. Sun has been long in research of sports architecture and urban design, and made notable achievements highly recognized in the field.
