On the morning of Jan. 8, WENG Wenbing, first secretary of Singapore Embassy in China, and CHE Weimin, commissioner of Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of Ministry of Education, visited SCUT. ZHU Min, vice president, received the visitors in No. 3 Conference Room.
On the invitation of SCUT, Mr. WENG Wenbing came to discuss about SCUT's application for participation of Singapore Undergraduate Scholarships Project again. During the conference, ZHU Min, vice president, gave a detailed introduction of SCUT, and reassured the guests that, if the school could participate in the project again, the whole school would cooperate in enrollment and management of the project. WENG Wenbing, first secretary, was satisfied with SCUT and expressed his belief in SCUT's successful implementation of the project.

Singapore Undergraduate Scholarships Project was initiated in 1992. With the mutual agreement of the governments of China and Singapore, excellent freshmen from some key universities will be selected to study in National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, and will spend 6 years working in the newly-registered companies after graduation.

Singapore will provide scholarship to cover the students' tuition and life expenses. SCUT, admitted in the project in 1992, recommended two grades of excellent undergraduates to Singapore, but for some reason withdrew from this project in 1994.
