USTC Sets Up the World s First Quantum Government Network for Wuhu City

The research team headed by Academician Guo Guangcan and Professor Han Zhengfu at the Quantum Information Laboratory of USTC have set up the world s first quantum government network in close collaboration with Wuhu Municipal Government. This network, currently in trial operation, adopts a fully proprietary unidirectional quantum confidential communication scheme and related equipment supported by the quantum communication core group network technology.

This work is an indication that the quantum confidential communication technology has officially been put into practical application in China.

At the news conference held at the Wuhu City Broadcasting and Television Center on the morning of May 18, USTC announced this achievement: At its first phase the Wuhu City Quantum Government Network connects the city s department of science and technology, department of business development, commission of foreign trade and economic cooperation, federation of trade unions, and department of quality supervision,inspection and quarantine, along with eight clients based in the city s Telecommunication Building.

It is equipped with four main network nodes, three subsidiary network nodes, and a node for attack detection and testing. The network integrates the world s three existing group network technologies and provides a multi-layer, multi-functional network to meet the needs of different users for absolutely confidential quantum communication between any two points audio, text files and dynamic images as well as large-volume video conferencing and document transmission.

The core equipment and instrumentation for the Wuhu City Quantum Government Network have been fully developed and manufactured domestically. The localization of equipment and industrial application of the group network communication technology have enabled China to retain the full intellectual property right to the unidirectional quantum confidential communication scheme. The establishment of this quantum network is a symbol of successful technology transfer from fundamental research to industrilization in our country.
