The roof structure of SAIC-GM Auto Pavilion was completed

The roof structure of SAIC-GM Auto Pavilion was completed on August 26 as scheduled. Xu Weiguo, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Shanghai World Expo Affairs Coordination Bureau, Xiao Guopu, Vice President of SAIC Motor, and Kevin E. Wale, President & General Manager of GM China, witnessed the installation of the last screw onto the steel beam of the pavilion.

It is known that, as an official automotive partner of the Expo 2010 Shanghai China, SAIC-GM was the first among numerous participating corporations to submit the Letter of Confirmation of Participation Intent, and was also the first to submit the Theme Statement of SAIC-GM Auto Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo --- Drive to 2030

The foundation work of SAIC-GM Auto Pavilion took place on April 17 this year. So far 131 days have been spent on the construction. The pavilion is made of steel for its outer structure and is of a round shape. Beginning from the starting position and advancing both ways towards the closing point, the construction is of high complexity and very demanding in terms of precision requirement. Altogether nearly 1,800 tons of steel will be used. With a very tight schedule, an enormous number of components, complicated designs and a very constricted working site, the difficulty and intensity of project buildup are much greater than ordinary ones. Having stood to the test of continuous rainfalls that was the strongest in the past 70 years, the pavilion roof structure was completed at last in August as scheduled, honoring the commitment SAIC-GM had made to the Expo 2010 Shanghai China.

It is said that the whole SAIC-GM Auto Pavilion will be completed and put into trial operation in April 2010.
