Production Base of SAIC Fiat Powertrain HongYan Put Into Operation

The production base of SAIC Fiat Powertrain HongYan Co., Ltd. officially went into operation on May 22, introducing the largest diesel engine manufacturing joint venture in China. Tong Xiaoping, Vice Mayor of Chongqing, Wu Jianong, Vice Chairman of CPPCC of Chongqing, Franco Amadei, Board Chairman of Fiat Group China, Xiao Guopu, Vice President of SAIC Motor, and Zhou Langhui, Vice President of SAIC Motor, attended the opening ceremony.

SAIC Fiat Powertrain HongYan Co., Ltd. was established in June 2007, its shareholders being SAIC IVECO Commercial Vehicle Investment Co., Ltd., Fiat Powertrain Technologies and Chongqing Heavy-duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. It is the largest diesel engine manufacturing joint venture in China at present, and also the promoter of the production of hi-tech and low emission diesel engine in the country.

According to the planning, the main products of the joint venture at present are the three series of CURSOR, NEF and FIC, and the annual production capacity is to reach 200,000 sets of diesel engine assemblies, of which 100,000 sets will be for export purposes.

At the opening ceremony, Tong Xiaoping expressed her warm congratulations on the going into operation of SAIC Fiat Powertrain HongYan Co., pointing out that it represented a major outcome of Chongqing s efforts at implementing the strategy of cooperative innovation, and also a qualitative leap forward in the development of Chongqing s diesel engine manufacturing industry. She said that the municipal government of Chongqing will, as always, continue to support the long-term development of the company in future.

Xiao Guopu stressed in his speech that the goal of SAIC Fiat Powertrain HongYan was to develop itself into a powertrain supplier of first rate product, first rate quality and first rate service, as well as a supplier of solutions to energy conservation, environmental protection and new vehicular energies.

It is said that the heavy-duty truck GENLYON made by SAIC-IVECO Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd., which was equipped with the first product of SAIC Fiat Powertrain HongYan Co., Ltd. i.e. the star-rate engine Cursor 9, was launched into the market in March this year and was well received by the customers.
