To accelerate the fulfillment of SAIC s objectives of launching into the market the hybrid sedan of self-owned brand in 2010 and launching and industrializing the plug-in strong hybrid car and the all-electric car in 2012, SAIC held and oath-taking rally to accelerate the development of new energy vehicles on the morning of May 5.

Now the world s auto industry is in an important period of technological transition, and it has become a consensus of all sectors of society to develop and industrialize new energy vehicles. Attaching high importance to the work related to the development of new energy vehicles, the municipal government of Shanghai recently called a working conference on industrializing high-tech new energy vehicles.
It was made clear at the conference that major efforts should be focused on developing fuel-electricity hybrid vehicles and high performance all electric vehicles, and breakthroughs should be made in developing battery + motor + electric controls , so as to put in place independent industrial systems and industrial clusters that are leading in China and competitive enough internationally.
To implement the guideline of the municipal government, SAIC will unite the strengths of all parties and go all out to seize the vantage point in developing the auto industry with a strong sense of urgency. SAIC s development objectives of industrializing the new energy vehicles for the years 2010 and 2012 were also made clear at the conference. The organizations of the leading group and the promotion group of SAIC new energy vehicle project were announced, and the objectives and responsibilities for each stage of work were defined at the conference.
In his speech, Ai Baojun, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, required SAIC to heighten the sense of urgency and sense of responsibility, make innovations with a pioneering spirit in the new round of competition, take the lead in guiding the new energy vehicle development, bring into full play the role of SOEs as the main force and the leading role of the vehicle manufacturers, push forward the new energy vehicle project towards an earlier industrialization, help to establish an overall competitiveness of the related key components at the earliest possible time, seize the commanding heights in developing new energy vehicles, and keep SAIC s leadership in developing new energy vehicles without fail.
Hu Maoyuan, Board Chairman and CPC Party Secretary of SAIC said in his speech that accelerating the development of new energy vehicles was the only way for SAIC to achieve advancement by leaps and bounds, keep the leadership on the Chinese auto market and enhance its international competitiveness, and that SAIC would effectively carry out four imperatives , i.e. it was imperative to size up the situation , set clear objectives , take urgent action and step up strengths , so as to ensure the industrialization of new energy vehicles!
