Two Million MT Baosteel Fine Slag Powder Used in Domestic Projects

Write: Case [2011-05-20]

Although the longest cross-sea bridge of the world, the first commercial maglev project of the world, and the largest Yangtze River tunnel-bridge project of China seem to have nothing to do with each other, they have the same "gene"--Baosteel fine slag powder, the so called "green building material". Lately this product enjoyed 4 breakthroughs: exceeding 200,000 MT consumption in Yangtze River tunnel-bridge, application in exceeding 30 major projects in total, exceeding 2 million MT accumulated consumption and exceeding 6 million MT output.

Fine slag powder is processed from metallurgic waste by grinding blast furnace water granulated slag. It is regenerated and synthetic utilization product. It can partially replace cement in project construction. It is featured by such strong points as low price, high strength and good corrosion resistant performance.

Since the construction of its first fine slag powder production line of China in 2000, Baosteel has been making great improvements in both developing & utilization technology and production capacity. At present time the blast furnace water granulated slag available for utilization each year reaches 1.

2 million MT, which is greater than similar foreign enterprise.

In recent years, Baosteel "green building material" has been forming ties with the well-known projects at home and abroad frequently as a result of constant technical renovation. Baosteel fine slag powder is used in Shanghai F1 Race Car project, East Sea Bridge, Hongqiao Airport, exhibition halls of Expo 2010 Shanghai, metro lines and the longest cross-sea bridge of the world-Hangzhou Gulf Bridge. Among them, both East Sea Bridge and Hangzhou Gulf Bridge are "100-year projects", which have extremely high requirements on anticorrosion performance of concrete for sea water. To solve these difficulties, Baosteel Development Company Resources Regeneration Business Department Technical Center, Shanghai Baotian New Building Material Co., Ltd. and the relevant institutes co-developed high performance special admixture for concrete for ocean engineering application, filling the blank in China. For such key positions of Yangtze River tunnel-bridge as piers, which are exposed to the environment of big temperature difference and corrosion of fresh water and sea water alternatively all year long, Baosteel developed special admixture dedicated to tunne-bridge, which resists sulfate corrosion and chloride dialysis. This product is recognized as a "Shanghai high & new-tech achievement conversion" project. At present time, Baosteel has finished over 50 scientific research tasks in the fine slag powder field, and applied for patents for 20 of them. Baosteel has broken through the technical "bottle neck" of major crack in concrete by successfully tackling the difficulties in fine slag powder in water retention property, plasticity, durability, and wear resistance.
