Baosteel Developed New Constructional Steel for World Expo

The industrial trial manufacture of BLY160 new constructional steel with extremely low yield point needed in Shanghai World Expo Project was recently completed in Baosteel. The actual performance of the product reaches the designed target and the product will enter the stage of new product certification. The product fills the domestic blank of constructional steel for earthquake-resistant metal shock damper.

Compared with conventional constructional steel, BLY160 steel can remarkably improve the rigidity and bearing capacity of frame construction by adding sleeve externally. In view of its good earthquake-resistant performance, at present, about 250 buildings in Japan have adopted this kind of structural steel, while the domestic market had always been monopolized by foreign suppliers.

In order to use the homemade new constructional steel in the first permanent building of Shanghai World Expo "World Expo Center", Baosteel launched the R&D and trial manufacture of low yield point steel series products for earthquake resistant buildings two years ago with the key projects as the platform, and developed extremely low yield point steel BLY160 in a short time, not only breaking the foreign monopoly but also further boosting the market development and engineering application of Baosteel's high performance constructional steel.
