Baosteel Became One of the first Silver Level Suppliers of Caterpillar Inc.

Baosteel Ltd. won recently the Silver "Excellent Supplier" Certification by Caterpillar Inc. It became one of the few steel makers of the world with this honor.

Caterpillar Inc., one of the top 500, is the largest manufacturer of the world for engineering machinery, mining equipment, diesel oil & natural gas engine and industrial gas turbine. Caterpillar has invested in more than 10 enterprises in China up to now. It has quite a big demand of steel products in the industrial manufacturing field, totaling 2 million MT each year, with strict quality requirements.

Caterpillar became Baosteel's cooperation partner of in 1990s. In more than 10 years, both parties had a wide cooperation in steel products application and R&D, based on the aim of win-win and mutual benefit. Baosteel presented new products conforming to Caterpillar's requirements almost every year. At the same time, with the support of Caterpillar, Baosteel achieved long term stable supply by improving constantly the product quality.

Baosteel structural steel for engineering machinery is free of quality discrepancy for consecutive 3 years since 2005. This has further consolidated both parties cooperation.

Caterpillar started its world supplier certification last year. The excellent suppliers are classified into copper, silver, gold and platinum levels. It is understood that no steel makers of the world had got the gold level certification or above; and only a few got the silver level, among which only 2 are from the Asia-Pacific region.
