Number of patents of Baosteel ranked fourth among the state enterprises

A few days ago, SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of State Council) announced the ranking of the state enterprises in terms of number of patents possessed in 2006. Baosteel Group ranked fourth in the list, advanced by two compared to last year. Meanwhile, National Development and Reform Commission announced the result of the assessment 2006 from the technical center of the state level and the Technical Center of Baosteel Co., Ltd. ranked second again.

SASAC took the lead last year in organizing the ranking of the state enterprises once a year according to number of patents possessed. The application for patents from Baosteel last year amounted to 821 cases, among which, 271 cases are patents for invention; authorization patents amounted to 403 cases and 65 cases are patents for invention. As of the end of last year, Baosteel had 1416 cases of effective authorized patents, ranking fourth among 159 large state enterprises. The other top three are China Petrochemical Corporation, CSG and China National Petroleum Corporation respectively.

Since 1994, China National Development and Reform Commission has started assessment on the state-level technical centers and since last year, it has conducted once every two years. Main items to be assessed are more than 20 indexes such as the percentage of expenses for scientific and technical activities among sales revenue of products and compared to previous years, annual revenue per capita of the Technical Center compared to the annual revenue per capita of the enterprise and foreign cooperation, etc. Last year, the Technical Center of Baosteel Co., Ltd. scored 93.1, ranking second among 437 of the state-level technical centers.
