Baosteel won the bid for the renovation project of Great Wall Station

On 6th,Aug,Polar Research Institute of China and Baosteel held a signing ceremony at Baosteel Tower for the project of Great Wall Station in Antarctic, announcing officially that Baosteel will undertake the construction of one of the national key program----the renovation of Great Wall Station.

Polar research activities have important significance in politics, economics, science and military and have close relations with country's interests. China now owns two research stations in Antarctic??they are Great Wall Station and Zhongshan Station which are both beyond designed using time, therefore, China will start big renovations for these two stations to build them to be the places with more complete living facilities, more advanced means of communications and transportation, more reliable safety guard system and more environment-friendly in an effort to finally improve the living and working conditions for the researchers at the stations.

Baosteel has always paid attention to the development of China's scientific researches and has a long history of co-operation with Polar Research Institute of China. Tracing back to 1996, Baosteel's self-developed polyester color coated plates were used in the construction of the food building, living building and scientific research building of Great Wall station; later in 2001, Baosteel designed manufactured and built an energy building named as Baosteel Building for the same station for free of charge, using the latest developed fluorine-carbon color steel polyurethane laminboard and high performance fire proof weathering steel at that time.

Over the years, Baosteel Building has endured very bad natural conditions and become a landmark of Great Wall Station

In the open bid for the renovations of the two stations held by relevant national authorities this year, Light House Company of Baosteel Business development Co., ltd was successfully awarded with the bid for Great Wall renovation project with the advantages of rich resources and practices. According to the plan, except for Baosteel Building, Great Wall Station will be renovated and extended for all the other buildings covering an area of 1980 square meters which includes scientific research building, activities building, boiler room, waste and sewage buildings and outdoor engineering facilities, etc.

On the signing ceremony, Mr. Qu Tandi ,Director of China's Polar Research Administration Office and Mr. Zhang Zhanhai, Director of China's Polar Research Institute expressed their confidence with Baosteel's co-operation and said, due to the bad weather, high humidity, strong corrosivity of Antarctic area and short time for outdoor construction, bad transportation conditions which result to high requirement on material quality and construction arrangement, Baosteel is expected to achieve top technologies and management and make the design blueprint of Great Wall Station into reality soon in an effort to enhance the co-operation to a higher level.

Mr. Dai zhihao, vice president of Baosteel., ltd told that, the cooperation between Baosteel and Polar Research Institute for a second time fully showed the confidence of the customer on Baosteel's products and their recognition on Light House Company's construction level. As the leader and pioneer of domestic iron & steel enterprises, Baosteel has the responsibility and liability to actively commit itself into polar research program.
