Baosteel Donates RMB 50 million yuan to CEPF

In order to support China's environmental protection cause, enhance the environmental consciousness of the whole society and highlight the enterprises' social responsibilities in the field of environmental protection, Baosteel decides to donate RMB 50 million yuan to China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF).

On the afternoon of May 14, "undertaking the social responsibilities the ceremony of Baosteel's donation to China Environmental Protection Foundation" was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The sum will be used to commend the collectives and individuals who make important contributions to or great achievements for China's environmental protection causes.

Vice chairman of NPC Jiang Zhenghua, vice chairman of CPPCC Huang Mengfu, president of CEPF Qu Geping, vice president of CEPF Wang Jirong, honorary president of CEPF Ba Zhongtan, deputy director of State Environmental Protection Administration Li Ganjie, chairman of Baosteel Group Corporation Xu Lejiang, deputy secretary of CPC committee of Baosteel Ouyang Yingpeng and vice president of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. Li Haiping attended the donation ceremony.

Founded in 1993, CEPF intends to, by means of accepting and raising funds, patronize and develop the activities and projects that can promote China's environmental protection causes, commend and reward the organizations and individuals who make outstanding contributions to the environmental protection causes. "China Environment Prize" is the highest level of social prize in the field of China's environmental protection.

Since being put into production, Baosteel has been carefully implementing the guideline of sustainable development, striving to promote the harmonious development of economic growth, social progress and environmental protection. In 1998, Baosteel Co., Ltd. became the first enterprise to pass ISO14001 certification in the domestic metallurgical industry.

In 2004, Baosteel Co., Ltd. was listed among the first batch of national industrial sightseeing demo spots. In May 2005, Baosteel Co., Ltd. was awarded with the title of "Environmental Friendly Enterprise" by State Environmental Protection Administration, which was the first one among the domestic metallurgical industry, and entered the list of pilot enterprises for circular economy demo bases in national "11th 5-year" planning.

In order to commend Baosteel's excellent achievements made to the environmental protection cause and its support to the public welfare establishments, with the approval of the organizing committee of China Environment Prize, the enterprise name "Baosteel" is added to the name of China Environment Prize, so that it becomes "China Baosteel Environment Prize".

The prize is appraised and awarded once every year, including environment management prize, environment prize for cities and towns, environmental protection prize for enterprises, ecological protection prize and environmental protection propaganda prize. The organizing committee of "China Baosteel Environment Prize" consists of 14 units including the Ministry of Communication of the Party's Central Committee, Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of NPC, and the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment of CPPCC, the national departments and ministries concerned and Baosteel Co., Ltd. etc.
