Baosteel Ltd.: 656 Patents Applied, 1890 Articles of Technical Know-How Approved Last Year
Baosteel Ltd. had another fruitful year in intellectual property right work in 2006. In the whole year, Baosteel Ltd. applied for 656 patents, 312 of which were inventive patents; and 1890 articles of technical know-how were approved, up 35.5%, 55.2% and 26.3% respectively over the previous year. 332 patents were granted. These are the historically best record, a new chapter in technical innovation of Baosteel Ltd.
With the issuance and implementation of The Outlines on the Development of Baosteel Technical Innovation System, the overall level of the company's intellectual property right work was improved further. Last year, Baosteel Ltd. modified intellectual property right management system, methods of patent management and methods of technical know-how management and spread the technical innovation evaluation and management system to various branches and subsidiaries; thus centralized the value orientation of the technical innovation work of various units to independent intellectual property right. At the same time, the Intellectual Assets Department convenes at regular intervals symposiums on intellectual property right work to address the problems emerged during the works; and based on the actual conditions of various branches and subsidiaries, the same department carried out popularization and trainings on intellectual property right knowledge of diversified forms, which enhanced the awareness of intellectual property right in the entire personnel and impelled a flourish development of technical innovation activities in the mass.
Last year, Baosteel Branch and Baosteel Research Institute continued to play a leading role in the technical innovation work of Baosteel Ltd. The technical know-how of Baosteel Branch has been improved in both quantity and quality. While the quantity of patent application continues to grow, Baosteel Research Institute achieved a sharp increase in inventive patents, which counted for 76% of total patents of the whole year, representing the level of Baosteel's professional team. With the implementation of integral management, in learning from Baosteel Branch's experience in intellectual property right work, various branches and subsidiaries carried out trainings on patent and technical know-how, which improved greatly the sense of innovation and the ability of application of their personnel. The quantity of patent application of Stainless Steel Branch and Meishan Iron & Steel rose 2.5 times and 1.2 times respectively over the previous year.
To push forward the intellectual property right work all roundly, Baosteel Ltd. established a scientific evaluation mechanism, which further brought about good atmosphere for innovation and inspired the personnel's enthusiasm and ability in innovation. Last year, Baosteel Ltd. saw parallel advancement of both quantity and quality of patents and technical know-how, especially the sharp increase in application of inventive patents, which was 40% increase over the previous year; and international patents were applied for 4 product patents. Among them, such patents as hot-rolled martensite steel plate whose tensile strength is over 1,000 MPa and its manufacturing method, super-high strength high tenacity X120 pipeline steel and its manufacturing method and a kind of high strength 13Cr oil jacket tubing steel and its manufacturing method are leading products at home and first-class products in the world. Some patent products that have been put in production practice have created significant benefit for Baosteel.
