Overall Start of Hansteel New district Project Jointly Invested by Baosteel and Hansteel

Core project of Hansteel New District--2250 Hot Tandem Rolling Project laid a foundation for starting construction in the morning of May 31st. It marked the overall start of Hansteel New District project jointly invested by Baosteel and Hansteel. The start of this project will produce a positive and profound influence on optimizing the steel industrial structure of Hebei Province as well as accelerating the national production of high-side sheet and strip and high performance steel which are in short supply in China.

The secretary of the CPC committee and chairman of the standing committee of the People's Congress of Hebei Province Bai Keming, the executive vice governor of Hebei province Yu Zhifang, vice president of Baosteel Group Zhao Kun, chairman of Hansteel Group Liu Rujun, and president Li Lianping attended the startup ceremony.

Hansteel New District, with a full name of Overall Planning of optimizing and upgrading industrial structure of Hansteel, was officially approved by NDRC on Dec. 31st, 2005 and laid the foundation on April 18th last year. On May 10th, this year, Baosteel and Hansteel set up Hanbao Company with joint investment in order to build and develop Hansteel New District hand in hand.

Hansteel 2250 Hot Tandem Rolling project is the core project of Hansteel New District. Its total investment reached RMB 3.9 billion yuan, 20% of the total investment for Hansteel New District. The annual output of the project is planned to be 4.5 m ton with the product specifications ranging from 1.2mm to 25.4mm in thickness and from 800mm to 2150mm in width.
Besides main products such as automotive steel, structural steel for ship hull and high weathering resistant structural steel, it also produces high value-added products such as hot-rolled duplex steel, multi-phase steel, phase transformation induced plastic steel and high strength pipeline steel. It fully embodies "three high one thin", which stands for high strength, high accuracy, high surface quality and thin gauge. Compared with the domestic lines of the same type, Hansteel 2250 Hot Tandem Rolling line adopted advanced adjusting system and highly efficient process model in the roughing and finishing areas, which can realize flexible rolling; the reheating furnace uses internationally advanced technologies of fuzzy logic controlled all-digital combustion and wide flame adjustable burner, with advantages of high heating quality, low energy consumption and low burning loss; the design of laminar spray cooling system reserves the function of forced cooling, which can improve product strength and reduce production cost without adding alloys during the smelting.

It is reported that the scheduled construction period of 2250 Hot Tandem Rolling project of Hansteel New District is 12 months, and the project will be put into production in June 2008.
