Buildings Made of Baosteel's Sheets Keep Sound on the South Pole

After ten years' ordeal in Antarctic under the inclement weather, the concrete columns used in Great-Wall Scientific Exploratory Station of China in the South Pole have been seriously corroded, while Baosteel's color-coated sheets applied to its roof covering and wall covering still remain sound. This information was brought back by the maintenance personnel to the South Pole from the Light Housing Company of Baosteel Business Development Co., Ltd.
Baosteel products entered into the South Pole with the development of China's scientific investigation cause. As early as 1996, Baosteel took the lead in independently developing polyester color-coated sheets in China, which were applied to the construction of food storage building, living building and scientific research building of Great-Wall Station of China in The South Pole. And in 2001, Baosteel designed, manufactured and constructed a power generation plant free of charge for Great-Wall Station "Baosteel Building", which used Baosteel's latest development then fluorocarbon color-coated steel polyurethane coreboard and high performance fireproof and weatherproof steel.
Through inspection and examination, the maintenance personnel found that due to the influence by bad weather such as bitter cold, strong gale, heavy snow and strong ultraviolet ray radiation, the concrete columns used in various buildings in Great-Wall Station were severely corroded, and some were even suspending. Comparatively, except color fading, Baosteel's polyester color-coated sheets appear no paint stripping and rusting. Made of Baosteel's fluorocarbon color-coated sheets, "Baosteel Building" not only appears no paint stripping and rusting, but also maintains its bright color. Even the inscription written by Baosteel's leader on the monument for the completion of "Baosteel Building" is still very clear and distinct.
Usually, the service life of color-coated sheets is far shorter than that of concrete. As for the "abnormal" phenomenon of the buildings in Great-Wall Station, experts explained that special weather conditions in the South Pole and great temperature difference directly influenced the firmness of the concrete; the dry and cold polar weather and strong gale fastened the concrete weathering, in addition, ice layer melting also caused the loss of foundation sand and stone, all of which shortened the service life of concrete considerably. In the process of producing color-coated sheets for "Baosteel Building", Baosteel gave full consideration of the weather feature in the South Pole, seeking to optimize the process and technologies of color-coated sheet production, enhancing its corrosive resistance and high frigid resistance. Its production quality has reached advanced international level and can bear ordeal under various bad weathers.
Besides, according to the introduction given by staff in the South Pole Great-Wall Station, the buildings made of Baosteel color-coated sheets have excellent features on heat preservation heat-insulation and sound insulation. Its shining red and blue coat has become beautiful scenery in the South Pole. Foreign friends from Korean Station, Russian Station and Chilean Station have given their high praises of it for many times. The maintenance personnel from Light Housing Company overcame various difficulties to strengthen the construction foundation of Great-Wall Station, striving to keep its brightness in the South Pole forever.
