National Superalloy Conference and International Symposium on Advanced Superalloy held in Baosteel

The 11th National Superalloy Conference and International Symposium on Advanced Superalloy co-sponsored by High Temperature Materials Institute of CSM and Baosteel Co., Ltd. opened on May 22 in Baoshan Hotel. The theme of this conference is "Superalloy for energy and transportation".

CAS and CAE member Shi Changxu, CAS member Yan Minggao and Hu Zhuanglin, CAE member Chen Guoliang are the consultants of the conference. Shi Changxu delivered the congratulatory speech in the opening ceremony, chairman of Baosteel Group Corporation Xu Lejiang delivered the salutatory, vice director of STCSM Shou Ziqi, chairman of High Temperature Materials Institute of CSM Zhong Zengyong and Purdue University of USA Professor J.

Radavich delivered speeches successively. Vice president of Baosteel Co., Ltd. Cui Jian and about 300 specialists and scholars from more than 50 R&D institutes and enterprises at home and abroad attended the conference.

Superalloy is an important product in the field of special material, and is a kind of key material in the modern industry, especially the advanced manufacture industry, which has extensive application in the sectors of aviation, aerospace, energy and transportation, etc. This conference aims at promoting the development of new material and new products in this field through the extensive discussion and exchange on the technologies and application of superalloy, and better serving the development of modern industry and society.

In recent years, Baosteel successively invested more than RMB 10 billion yuan to introduce the special metallurgical equipment with international leading level. A special metal sheet and strip production line is scheduled to be completed in 2009. By then, Baosteel's annual output of superalloy will reach 10,000t.

The attending specialists and scholars express that the convening of the conference in Baosteel demonstrates Baosteel's close attention to the development of superalloy industry; furthermore, the study and exchange between Baosteel and the peers at home and abroad are enhanced through the conference, the international influence of China's superalloy industry is strengthened and the development of national key industry and field is powerfully pushed forward.

Xu Lejiang pointed out that the attending specialists and representatives are the outstanding people in the field of R&D and application research of superalloy in the current world, their academic reports will show and represent the latest achievements and developing direction of each country in the R&D field of superalloy. This conference will be an academic seminar and grand gathering for exchange. We wish, through this exchange, Baosteel's special steel can achieve new development in superalloy to better reward the society.

This conference will last 3 days. 40 specialists and scholars from GE USA's Aviation Engine Business Unit, SMC USA, Institute of Metal Research CAS, CISRI, BIAM, Dongbei Special Steel Group Co. Ltd., Manitoba University Canada, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Northwestern Polytechnical University and Baosteel's Special Steel Branch will deliver specialized reports and theme reports successively.
