At 15:58 on 7th December, No. 2 Blast Furnace of Baosteel Branch was ignited and put into production. By that time, it was only 98 days that it took to finish the No. 2 Blast Furnace Overhaul Project, which was implemented by Baosteel people independently, the shortest time record for overhaul of domestic oversize blast furnace.

No. 2 Blast Furnace of Baosteel Branch was started up on 29th June 1991 and shut down on 31st August, operating stably for 15 years. The iron making capacity of unit furnace volume for the first-generation campaign was over 10,000 tons. Currently it is one of the large-scale blast furnaces with longest campaign life of the world.

The overhauled No. 2 Blast Furnace, compared with the last generation, is significantly improved in technical equipment and control level, with major design indices reaching current internationally advanced level. While maintaining the original shaft framework and blast capacity, the furnace volume of No.

2 Blast Furnace was expanded from 4063 m3 to 4706 m3. The design annual capacity is 3,770,000 tons of iron, with 18~20 years campaign life.
