Baosteel's New Variety of Heavy Plate Successful in Huangdao Project

With 3,200,000 m3 total storage capacity, the 32 storage tanks of phase 1 project at Huangdao National Petroleum Reservation Base now has entered the key stage of tank body construction. For 20 storage tanks thereof, each 100,000 m3, the 15,000 ton high strength hardened and tempered plates to be used will all be new varieties of heavy plate products developed and manufactured by Baosteel independently.

After the small lot supply to Zhenhai National Petroleum Reservation Base, this is Baosteel's first time of complete volume supply to national strategic petroleum reservation project. Facing the urgent demand of the national construction strategic petroleum reservation project, Baosteel paced up the independently R&D of high strength heavy plate of hardened and tempered steel.

In October 2004, Baosteel established "Developing & promotion group for steel for national petroleum reservation base", and was fully devoted into R&D of high strength plate. In early September 2005, high strength hardened and tempered plate was successfully trial-produced in the 5m Heavy Plate Mill production line of Baosteel Branch that was put into production not long ago.

It was a breakthrough in domestic production work for high strength plate. At present time, 1st lot 6000 ton high strength plate for 8 petroleum storage tanks for Huangdao National Petroleum Reservation Base has been all delivered. Various technical indices thereof fully meet the technical requirements for the construction.

The external dimension and surface quality are equivalent to those of imported ones; the physical chemical properties reach or even surpass those of the similar products of foreign countries; and the project construction cost was greatly reduced.
