The Second Biennial Baosteel Academic Conference Held(29154)

The Second Biennial Baosteel Academic Conference commenced in Baosteel Research Institute on 25th May. The Conference aims to display the technology development level and scientific research achievements of world metallurgic industry, to promote the cooperation of global steel makers and research institutes, and to provide a platform for technical exchange between them. For the 2 days long Conference, Xu Kuangdi, vice chairman of CPPCC and president of CAE, was the honorary chairman, Xie Qihua, chairwoman of CISA and president of the board of Baosteel, and Weng Yuqing, president of the board of CSM, are the chairpersons, and Xu Lejiang, vice general manager of Baosteel, was the vice chairman. Over 50 professors and scholars famous home and abroad and Baosteel specialists formed the Academic Committee of the Conference. Over 400 specialists and scholars of iron & steel industry from 22 countries and areas attended the Conference and had an all-round exchange on the latest development of technical innovation on iron & steel products, technology and equipment surrounding the theme of "technical innovation and recycling-economy". Yan Dongsheng, academician of CAS and CAE, Yin Ruiyu, academician of CAE, Baosteel leaders Liu Guosheng, Ouyang Yingpeng, Ai Baojun, Zhao Kun, Li Haiping, Fu Zhongzhe, Zhao Zhouli, Cui Jian, Zu Junsheng, etc. were present at the opening ceremony. Baosteel Ltd. general manager Ai Baojun said in his salutatory at the opening ceremony that Baosteel is ready to learn and make use of the experiences of the fellow traders home and abroad as well as share with them the fruits of R & D to play a more positive role in making rational utilization of resources and reducing the burden on the environment so as to build our steel making enterprises into industrial eco-land. Chen Kehong, vice director of Shanghai Municipal Committee of Science and Technology, and Mukherjee, executive director of Tata Group of India delivered speech of congratulation respectively. In the Conference, surrounding the theme of "technical innovation and recycling-economy", the reports titled Chinese Iron & Steel Industry Oriented to the 21cc by Xu Kuangdi, Cooperative Innovation to Open up a New field for Iron & Steel by Xie Qihua, Exploration to Technical Innovation by Okumura Naoki, The Trend of Sustainable Development of Iron & Steel Industry by Heo Nam Seok, superintendent of POSCO Kwangyang Works of Korea, and The Iron & Steel Industry of Germany in EC by Dieter Ameling, chairman of German Iron & Steel Association, discussed the current situation, problems and development of the iron & steel industry, and pointed out the direction of the development of world iron & steel industry in the future. The Biennial Baosteel Academic Conference is a large high-level, cross-disciplinary and open academic exchange conference held by Baosteel Group Corporation biennially from 2004. It was learned that the Conference received over 400 academic papers from home and abroad. Of them 254 papers passed the review and screening and were exchanged during the session. The Conference had 7 divisions for the special topics as "carbon steel products and technology", "stainless steel products and technology", "special steel products and technology", "metallurgic equipment and automation", "resources and environment", "metallurgic analysis and quality control" and "frontier technology of iron & steel". Among them, 68 papers were issued at the division of "carbon steel products and technology", covering iron making, steel making, continuous casting, steel rolling and development of iron & steel industry. Many specialists and scholars of iron & steel sector and technicians from the front line of production and research discussed the hot-spot topics and special technologies such as COREX technology, blast furnace coal injection and service life prolonging technologies, high speed continuous casting technology, fast refinery technology, martensite product development, the relation between structure and performance of stainless steel product, dual phase high temperature bearing steel, non-excavating drill pipes, resource conservation, recycling-economy, water ecological management, steel solidification, micro millimeter metal material and strip continuous casting, which currently attract universal attention from the iron & steel industry.
