Baosteel Shipbuilding Heavy Plate Used in Building High Class Natural Gas Carrying Vessel

Recently, 8000 tons of high quality shipbuilding plate independently developed by Baosteel for Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding to build LNG carriers were turned out in batches in Heavy Plate Mill of Baosteel Branch and shipped for Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Base on time. This marks that Baosteel is the first enterprise of the country to achieve production and batch supply of plate for LNG carrier and that for the first time Baosteel is capable of producing high end plate for shipbuilding.

At the end of last year, Baosteel Ltd., Baosteel Branch and Hudong-Zhonghua decided, as a result of rounds of technical exchanges, Baosteel will supply 8000 tons of Class A Shipbuilding plate for the 3rd LNG carrier, accounting for 35% of the steel consumption of the whole carrier. It was through times of discussions, calculations and optimizations that Program of LNG Shipbuilding Plate Production Technology was finalized.

Through tackling on project technologies, careful production organization and strict process control, Baosteel Branch rolled this batch of LNG shipbuilding plate smoothly. As tested by ABS, this batch of plate is good in each performance index and its dimensions meet the user's strict requirements. It is learned that by 2011, China will build 15 LNG carriers to form a specialized LNG carrier team.

Currently, Baosteel is active in exchange with Hudong-Zhonghua in this field.
