Baosteel Became a Member of WBCSD

Recently, Baosteel joined The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), became one of the first WBCSD members of world iron & steel industry, as well as the second Chinese member of WBCSD succeeding SINOPEC. This fully shows Baosteel's firmness in emphasizing environment protection, promoting recycling-economy and harmonious development of the human society, as well as the strong sense of social responsibility.

Taking building a harmonious society as its duty, Baosteel puts stress on energy saving and cost reducing, and it always attaches importance to environment protection, unswerving in taking the road of sustainable development. In recent years, through adopting clean production process in place of backward process, Baosteel significantly improved the surrounding environment and gained high opinion from all circles of the society.

WBCSD is an international organization closely related to UN, merged from BCSD and WICE in 1995, with its headquarters in Geneva. For over 10 years, WBCSD is pursuing the concept of sustainable development. With the philosophy of promoting economic growth, ecological balance and social progress and harmonic development, and the support of global network, WBCSD attracted over 1000 global business leaders to participate in its activities and became an alliance formed by over 190 international enterprises, involving over 20 key industries, such as petroleum, chemical, automobile, electric power, iron & steel and mining.
