Baosteel Wins WEC 2004 Special Contribution Prize

World Engineers' Convention 2004 was held ceremoniously at Shanghai International Convention Center on Nov. 3. Huang Ju, vice premier of the State Department attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Government. Leaders of Shanghai Municipal Government, World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and China Association for Science & Technology (CAST) attended the opening ceremony. Xu Kuangdi, president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced the inauguration of the convention. The convention read out a congratulatory letter from UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and awarded Special Contribution Prize to 11 enterprises from the home and abroad. Xu Lejiang, vice president of Shanghai Baosteel Group Corporation was the first honoree that received the prize.
"Engineers Shape the Sustainable Future" is the theme of the Convention. Xie Qihua, chairwoman and president of Shanghai Baosteel Group Corporation will make a speech on the topic of "realizing the sustainable development of China's steel industry".
