President Address

A modern world history of social productive forces is a history of the mutual promotion of scientific discovery, technical innovation and industrial revolution. Engineering science and technology is the bridge linking science to industry. It is the locomotive that drives forward human civilization along the road of progress.

The development of engineering science and technology has penetrated into every aspect of human life, deeper and broader in scope than any period in history. This rapid progress has opened man s eyes to the vastness of the universe, the minuteness of the particles, the ever-changing nature of the world and the mystery of life. It has painted a very colorful picture for human social life.

The Chinese scientists and engineers are a very important force in the world s engineering science and technology circles. Through their arduous efforts and creative labor they have contributed greatly to the growing strength of the country and the happiness of the people, and have propelled the development of engineering science and technology in this vast land where one-fifth of the world s population reside.

To meet the need of the times, the Chinese Academy of Engineering was established in 1994. As the most prestigious and informative advisory institution in China s engineering science and technology, the academy boasts a group of academicians with outstanding contributions to engineering and technological sciences.

They are the cream of the more than ten million engineering science and technology workers of the whole country. They all take the development of the country as their bounden duty and are working tirelessly in helping to steer a right course and provide decision-making consultancy for the country s major construction projects.

They have also achieved great successes in training the new generation and are therefore important creators of new productive forces and also pioneers of new industries.

We are undertaking an enterprise never undertaken before by our forefathers. In this new century, the Chinese Academy of Engineering is leading the country s engineering science and technology in joining the world in the march towards the future. We will strengthen our ties with international organizations such as the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) and carry out exchanges and cooperation with engineering science and technology circles of all countries in the world.

We ll adhere to the principal of exploration and innovation and foster the spirit of science, popularize scientific knowledge, raise the level of the world s engineering science and technology, and make greater contributions towards China s modernization and towards the social progress of humankind.
