In the course of the tour, the members and experts visited high-tech parks and enterprises like Laiwu Iron and Steel Group Corporation, and Mount Tai Iron and Steel Group, and carried out investigations in the severe summer heat. Laiwu has become a new industrial city with striking features, prominent advantages and strong vitality for development. The central role of the iron and steel industry in the city s economy has become increasingly important, and its position in the country s iron and steel industry is becoming more prominent with each passing day. At the same time, the iron and steel industry is extending gradually to deep processing and high-technology, thus promoting the rapid development of several related industries, such as powder metallurgy, automobile parts, new kinds of building materials and steel structures. Laiwu s next steps should be to make its existing industries larger and stronger, accelerate the escalation of its industrial structure, extend its industrial chains, focus more on introducing talented people and high technologies, do a good job integrating production with academics and research, raise the technological content and added value of its products strengthen management, lower costs and improve economic efficiency.
