Hou Xianglin, a centurial old man, moves people with his outstanding deeds

A meeting commending the outstanding deeds of CAE Member Hou Xianglin was held on the morning of September 19 at the Great Hall of the People. Premier Wen Jiabao and the representatives from all walks of life in the capital attended the meeting.
The presentations at the meeting made the participants see how a 93-year-old scientist has linked his personal destiny with the prosperity of the country, and how he has selflessly contributed his intelligence and wisdom to the motherland. Four people who are friends and colleagues of Hou Xianglin Shi Changxu, a member of the CAE and CAS, and former vice-president of the CAE; Li Dadong, a CAE member and former president of the Research Institute of Petroleum Processing; Zhao Wenzhi, an expert of oil and gas geology and exploration, and vice-president of the China Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development; and Deputy Director Zhang Jiguang of the Administrative Affairs Center of the China National Petroleum Corporation told the audiences with feeling about Hou s life, work and research in great detail at the meeting.
Finally Hou Xianglin said at the meeting: I went through almost the whole of the 20th century with our motherland. As a Chinese, I am very proud of my motherland today; as a Communist Party member of over 60 years standing, I will never regret for my political belief; and as a scientist of New China, I have never doubted about the strength of science and technology. I am gratified that I have devoted all my life to the scientific and technological cause of my country.
