Guangzhou's Largest Fashion and Accessories Market Opens

With the opening of the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, the areas around the new Guangzhou Railway Station, the largest one of its kind in Asia, have been attracting a steady inflow of capital.
Construction of the Jiamei International Fashion and Accessories City, with an investment of RMB 500 million, began on January 23 at Zhongcun in Panyu. Jiamei's board chairman Cao Pingchang stated that with the opening of high-speed railways between Guangzhou and Wuhan, Guizhou, Nanning, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, the Jiamei International Fashion and Accessories City is set to become another major commercial center rivaling and even surpassing the existing leading Baima and Zhanxi commercial centers around the old railway station.
The Fashion and Accessories City will have a site area of 400,000 square meters and a gross floor area of 350,000 square meters. Its first phase, with a floor area of 220,000 square meters, will provide nearly 8,000 stores, 10 times more than Baima and Zhanxi commercial centers. An additional fund of RMB 350 million will be injected in the subsequent phases of the project. To date, more than 2,000 merchants have signed up for space in the Fashion and Accessories City, which is scheduled for opening at the end of March.
