Yesterday afternoon, a red-tailed Boeing passenger plane landed at Shantou Airport at 17:58 of local time, inaugurating the air route to Shantou by the Hong Kong Airlines Limited. It signifies a new era that Shantou Airport opens to foreign aircraft. Hong Kong Airlines is now the second overseas airlines after the Singapore Jetstar Asia Airways that have entered the Shantou aviation market. It will bring about new opportunities to Shantou-Hong Kong cooperation and will further improve Shantou's investment climate, promote local economic and social development and speed up the construction of a regional central city.
It is learned that the Hong Kong Airlines will run one flight a day between Hong Kong and Shantou, and the aircraft will be Boeing 737-800 that operates under the flight HX261/2. The flight takes off at Hong Kong at 17:00 and lands at Shantou at 17:40; and then takes off again at Shantou at 18:20 and lands at Hong Kong at 19:05. As the Southern Airlines is also running flights between Shantou and Hong Kong, there will be two flights a day from Shantou Airport to Hong Kong.
