A delegation led by the new Consul General of Vietnam in Guangzhou To Quoc Tuan paid a visit to Dongguan yesterday (Feb.23). Vice Mayor of Dongguan Jiang Ling warmly received the delegation and exchanged views on tourism, education and economic cooperation between Dongguan and Vietnam.
Jiang Ling provided information concerning the economic development of Dongguan in 2010 to the delegation. According to Jiang, Dongguan's total trade volume of imports and exports with Vietnam rose to USD 736 million last year, up by 66%.
"Dramatic changes have taken place in Dongguan after 30 years' development. Dongguan is a place worth of a visit for Vietnamese when they come to Guangdong Province," To Quoc Tuan said at the meeting.
This is To Quoc Tuan's first visit to Dongguan. He said that the Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou fully supports the official departments and enterprises in Dongguan to visit and inspect Vietnam in future.
Jiang discussed practical areas of Vietnam-Dongguan cooperation with Consul General, including business trade and culture. "Dongguan and Vietnam also have big potential for cooperation on tourism. The number of Dongguan visitors to Vietnam has skyrocketed in recent years. Special local products such as Vietnam's rice noodle and Humen Dongguan's clothing can be promoted via tourist cooperation," suggested Jiang.
