Vice President Yuan Jun met the dean of Hong Kong Confucian College, Dr. Tang Enjia, and his three family members on the morning of August 19.
Yuan expressed warm welcome to Mr. Tang at first, and briefly introduced the teaching and development of the Communication University of China (CUC). Tang said, protecting and carrying forward the cultural heritage of Confucius have been his life-long pursuit. Until now, he has donated some statues of Confucius to mainland colleges and universities, and financially supported the establishing of several Confucius hospitals in Tibet.
Yuan hoped the two universities would have chances to joint hands on promoting traditional Chinese culture. Liu Liqun, CUC s Associate President, and Zhang Lili, Director of Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of CUC also joined the meeting. After the meeting, Mr. Yuan showed Dr Tang and his family around the campus.
Hong Kong Confucian College, founded by Chen Huanzhang, a disciple of Kang Youwei in 1930, committed itself to disseminating and promoting Confucian culture. The current President Dr. Tang Enjia made a fortune from scratch after immigrating from Guangdong to Hong Kong at 15. He became the dye king in his twenties. At present, he is the board chairman of five companies, and the president of the Asian Badminton Association. In 1992 he took over the post of the president of the Hong Kong Confucian College. Since then, he devoted most of his energy into researching and publicizing Confucianism, exploring and sponsoring Confucian cultural heritage at home and abroad.
