On July 31th, President Su Zhiwu met with Dean Cheryl Geisler and his delegation from Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology of Simon Fraser University in Canada. Vice Presidents Ding Junjie and Yuan Jun of CUC respectively had a meeting with the Canadian guests.
During the meeting with President Su, Dean Geisler introduced this visits overall goal, and the managment in charge in related schools and departments of Communication University of China also participated in the discussion about cooperative projects. President Su welcomed the delegation s visit, expressed his appreciation for the discussion achievement.
President Su pointed out that the higher education needs to internationalize the development. In the process of building a world-famous communication university of high level, CUC has always attached great importance to the exchanges and cooperation with world famous universities, and initiating International League of Higher Education in Media and Communication is one of the important measures. SFU as a union university has many years of exchanges and cooperation with CUC. This visit is an important opportunity to push the bilateral substantive depth cooperation to a new stage. This time the discussion made the very good progress together on the scientific research cooperation, the union raise, the teacher and the student exchange and holding the academic conference together and so on, hoped that both sides could strengthen the cooperation and land the discussion achievement on feet. President Su encouraged related schools and departments to enhance communication with Simon Fraser University, pushing forward the development of cooperation projects together and reaching a win-win state.
Dean Geisler highly praised CUC s achievement and status in Chinese media education, expressed the appreciation to CUCs internationalization school mentality, and thanked President Su for his care and surport in the cooperation of both sides. She said that the cooperation with CUC played an important role in promoting the internationalization development of SFU. SFU would continue to pay attention to SFU and CUC s friendship and cooperation, and strengthen cooperation, and constantly drive the development of substantive cooperation projects.
On July 28th and 29th, Vice President Ding Junjie and Vice President Yuan Jun had a separate meeting with the delegation from SFU, and exchanged the views on the issues of common interest and the areas of collaboration.
During July 28th to August 1st when the SFU delegation was visiting CUC, they had many activities. With School of Television and Journalism of CUC, the delegation carried on a thorough careful discussion about the union raising for the graduate students and so on, and has reached the mutual recognition. Next, they would enter the substantive development stage of the project. The delegation had some talks with Communication Research Institute on the scientific research cooperation, teachers exchange and other such aspects of the domains on media education, medium and gender and so on, and conducted discussion on the academic issues both sides cared about. The delegation also visited the New Media Research Institute, the key laboratory of Ministry of Education of China for media audio and video, CUC television station and School of Animation, and gave lectures, had informal seminars and other activities.
President Assistant Liu Liqun and other comrades from related functional departments, the institutes and organizations participated in the meeting and the discussion.
The other members of SFU delegation are Vice Dean Alison Beale of Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, Dean John Bowes of School of Interactive Arts & Technology, Section Chief William Ladefo of International Department and Vice Dean Zhao Yuezhi of School of Communication.
