Professor Hartmut Michel, the Nobel Prize Winner of 1988 in chemistry, visited and delivered a speech at Tsinghua University on September 5. He was invited to be an honorary professor at Tsinghua in the conferring ceremony held that afternoon.
Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe met and had a talk with Professor Michel prior to the speech. The two exchanged ideas on talent cultivation and university development.
After the meeting, Professor Michel delivered a speech titled Structures and Mechanisms of Membrane Proteins-Routes and Achievements in the main building. Before the speech, Vice President Xie awarded the letter of appointment to Prof. Michel.
Professor Michel later visited the Laboratory of Protein Science, MOE and talked with students and teachers of the Department of Biological Science and Biotechnology and School of Medicine.
Prof. Michel was born in 1948. He received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1988 for the determination of the three-dimensional structure of a photosynthetic reaction centre.
