Former Secretary of State Speaks at Tsinghua

Mr. Colin Luther Powell, Former Secretary of State, visited Tsinghua and delivered a speech at the main building on July 19.
Tsinghua Vice President Hu Heping met with Mr. Powell, giving an outline of Tsinghua s students and development.
Mr. Powell, in his speech, noted that China has rapidly developed over the past thirty years. He stated that he believes Sino-U.S. relations have a bright future. He stressed the importance of economic development and international cooperation in world relations. He also emphasized the importance of energy development, environmental protection and education. Mr.Powell encouraged the young people to work hard for the development of their country and the world. You are the future, said Mr. Powell.
Mr. David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Carlyle Group, a private investment firm, also delivered a speech.
Mr. Powell and Mr. Rubenstein answered questions from the students after their speeches.
