The 2009 Chengdu New Energy International Forum, a centerpiece for China s environmental protection industry, began on September 7 in Chengdu. Sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the China Renewable Energy Society and the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, the two-day event proved a major draw for climate change experts and entrepreneurs from across the world. Board Chairman of Tongwei Group, Mr. Liu Hanyuan attended the forum and exchanged views on the status and future of China s PV industry.
According to Mr. Liu Hanyuan, China has mastered large-scale production technology of polycrystalline silicon. This laid a solid foundation for China s next stage of manufacturing 1/3 or even 2/3 of the world s polysilicon. In addition, the advantage of solar energy is that it is the environmental-friendly energy with high conversion efficiency. Finally, Mr. Liu also expressed his disagreement with the excess production of polysilicon industry concern. Instead, he thinks it will be the new growth engine for China s economic development.
