2010 (Dalian) Celebration of Teacher s Day was held
Yesterday, Dalian People's Culture Club was decorated with blooming flowers and colorful streamers, where the 2010 (Dalian) Celebration of Teachers Day was held. Xia Deren, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Liaoning Committee and secretary of the Dalian Party Committee, attended the conference and made a passionate speech. Mayor Li Wancai bestowed honors to Principal Liu Chun of Dalian Yuming High School and six other outstanding experts from primary and middle schools. Xia stressed that the greatest cause of national development and the future is education, which plays a fundamental leading role and which therefore should be given priority and be put in a prominent strategic position. We should create a favorable atmosphere in society for respecting teachers and attaching importance to education; we should further increase input in education and solve practical problems for the development of education in order to make people satisfied with a good education. The municipal leaders Li Jingrui, Tian Shujun, Zhu Chengqing and Zhang Rongjie attended the conference.
On behalf of the Dalian Party Committee, the Dalian Municipal People s Congress, the Dalian Municipal Government and the Dalian Municipal CPPCC, Xia extended his congratulations to the teachers honored, conveyed his greetings and regards to both in-service and retired teachers, educational workers and their families and expressed his thanks for all those who have consistently been concerned for and supported Dalian s educational development. He pointed out that we have made great achievements in education due to the joint efforts from the whole society and the importance the Party committees and government at all levels have given it, and due to the effort and sweat all the teachers and educational workers have dedicated to it. For many years, all the Dalian teachers have implemented the Party s education policy and made their positive contributions to Dalian s educational, social and economic development with their career-dedication, sense of responsibility, meticulous scholarship and indefatigable perseverance, drawing great respect and praise from the whole society.
At present, Xia said, education is facing unprecedented opportunities for major development. On July 13, the 4th National Conference on Education was held in Beijing by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, the first one in the new century since China adopted its reform and opening-up policy and in which the National Medium to Long Term Reform and Development Plan for Education (2010-2020) was promulgated. General Secretary Hu Jintao and Premier Wan Jiabao delivered important speeches at the conference, expounding the important and strategic roles education plays in realizing the national future development and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, putting forth clear requirements for future development of Chinese education and putting high expectations on all the teachers. We should study and implement the important directives from General Secretary Hu Jintao and Premier Wan Jiabao to give top priority to education and to promote the development of education to a new level.
The development of education is of overriding importance to the revitalization of Dalian, and, Xia went on, what Dalian s macro-urbanization needs now are brainpower and talent. The key point for improving the quality of workers is to give priority to the development of education, training qualified personnel with education and revitalizing the city through them. The development of education is of overriding importance to people s livelihood. Education involves hundreds of thousands of households, matters much to people s vital interests and holds their expectations for a better life. We should attach importance to education and develop education while we show our concern for people s livelihood, make people satisfied with education, provide them with more chances of receiving better and equal education and make it a reality that everyone has right to education . The development of education is of overriding importance to the city s cultural and ideological progress. With a high level of education, we can improve comprehensive qualities of the whole nation and the whole society s level of civilization Dalian has been twice awarded the title of National Civilized City; to increase the city's soft power and to enhance the level of urban civilization, we should give practical and personnel resources in the educational system full play and fully applied, carry forward the scientific spirit and innovative culture in the whole society, enhance moral education, foster the city spirit, and improve the quality of people s civilization, providing powerful intellectual support for the construction of the civilized city of Dalian and for the new leap of social, economic and strategic development of Dalian.
Xia stressed that we should further create a favorable atmosphere in society, respecting teachers and attaching importance to education; continue to improve teacher s social status to make it the most respectable and enviable career, which will attract more outstanding talent to life-long teaching careers. We should further increase input to solve practical problems for the development of education. We should ensure higher growth of the educational financial provision than that of regular revenue, improve the treatment of teachers with the economic development and create a better environment for their imparting knowledge and educating students. We should build a high-level team of teachers; all the teachers and educational workers should enhance their own tutelage, set good examples and make greater progress, becoming highly qualified good teachers that students love and people are happy with.
Later, the teachers and students from the Dalian educational circle gave the municipal leaders and the participants a wonderful artistic performance. Before the conference, a feature film Dalian Education in Strategic Development was put on, showing the great achievements of Dalian educational development in recent years.
